A Baptism Celebration – Dinks McCoubrie

Baptism Celebration

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God, which continues for the rest of our lives and is the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved, particularly the candidates and congregation, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith. The wider community of the local church and friends welcomed Dinks, promising support and prayer for her. Hearing and doing these things provides an opportunity to remember our own baptism and reflect on the progress made on that journey, which is now to be shared with Dinks as a member of the Church.

We celebrated with Dinks McCoubrie on her special day and listened how She had been welcomed into St Mary’s and re-embarked on her journey of faith with Jesus.

Family Celebrations at St Mary’s

Family Celebrations

Sunday 12th June 2016

This weekend, as the nation was celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday, St Mary’s were enjoying celebrations of a different kind with one of our Church families. As part of our Sunday morning service we were celebrating with Gillian Glover, one of St Mary’s Church Wardens and giving thanks for the birth of her granddaughter Nora Rose Gillespie.Thanksgiving cake

Nora lives in New York with her parents, James and Chrissy and was baptised earlier this year at 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.  Sadly not all the members of their family from the UK were able to travel to the America to join them for this ceremony, including two of Nora’s Godparents, so it was wonderful that they were able to be with us at St Mary’s for this special occasion.

James attended St Mary’s when he was growing up and it was fantastic for the church family here at St Mary’s to be able to share in this Thanksgiving service for his daughter.

Following the service there was a time for everyone to get together, chatting with old friends and making new ones, and  to enjoy tea and coffee along with a slice of cake.  This beautiful cake was baked by Sam Sutherland, a friend and member of St Mary’s church family.
